Golden Wedding Anniversary

This was for a wonderful couple who celebrated their "50th" wedding anniversary. I frosted this cake in white and brushed it with "Gold" pearl dust which seemed most appropriate for this anniversary. I made champagne glasses from fondant and brushed those with "Gold" pearl dust as well. I placed them at the bottom of the cake so they could toast their special day.

Baking with Friends

This was SOOOOOOOOOOOO COOL!!!!! As a young baker I was given the chance to review this book before it was printed and the authors included my review in the printed edition.
I'm published now!!
The book has great recipes that even little kids can make. The authors were autographing their book at Book Expo America and asked me to bake some of the recipes in the book and hand out samples. That's me with one of the authors and the book's publicist, Pam Atherton. It was so much fun handing out sweet treats  (and missing a day of school).

Roses, Roses, Roses

This cake is made from a dark chocolate devils food batter. It was covered with light pink fondant and beautiful pink and white roses around the sides. On either side of the roses I out a small green petal made out of fondant as well. On top of the cake I wrote "Happy Birthday Irene".

Circles and Dots

This cake was wrapped in white fondant and inspired by the paper plates used at the party. I made the circles on circles just like on the plate and added little white dots with icing. I've included a picture of the plate so you can decide for yourself how close I got.

Sam's an Islander Girl

Sam is a skating teacher at Iceland where I train and skate. She's also an "Islander Girl". You know, she skates on the ice during timeouts and stuff like that, sometimes she throws t-shirts into the crowd and gives away other stuff. When I found out it was her birthday and my skating teacher wanted to get her a cake to celebrate we couldn't think of anything better than the "Islander" logo.  My Ranger-loving brother won't forgive me for making an Islander cake.....but who cares.

Happy Birthday Sam!!!!!!!

I love this cake but still root for the Rangers whenever they play the Islanders!!

RanKees-Yangers!!!!

Josh and Max share a birthday, were born in the same hospital and have gone to school together since kindergarten. They're best friends and treat each other like brothers from other mothers. Josh lives for the Yankees and Max (a Met lover) bleeds Rangers' blue. Max and Josh celebrated their 16th birthday together (they were others) so there was no better cake possible that one that was half Rangers and half Yankees.
Go RanKees!!!!!!!
GoYangers!!!!!!

Oh never mind.

A Guy for All Sports

This cake was for a real sporty 8 year old's birthday celebration. Ari couldn't decide which he loves more, soccer, basketball, football or baseball. So the only thing to do was make a cake that celebrated all of them and that's what he got.

For "Ralph's Ices" Biggest Fan

Could you imagine anything better than a replica of a "Ralph's Italian Ice's" cup. This cake is three layers of moist chocolate cake filled with chocolate frosting. It is covered in white fondant and iced with vanilla butter cream. The top is sprinkled with Reese's pieces. I took pictures of this cake to our local Ralph's and the owner posted the pictures. So Awesome!!! He let me put my contact info on the bottom of the pictures so who knows maybe I'll get some more orders. A girl can hope, can't she?

Hello Summer Fun!!!!

This was the last cake I made as part of a Bat-Mitzvah project. During the past year, I visited an after-school program each month to spend time with elementary school kids who had no place to go after school. I would play games and spend time with them. At each visit I brought a cake to share. Sometimes it was for birthdays and this time since it was the end of the school year I made a farewell cake and wished them a great summer.

500 CAKE RECIPES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the weekend of May 29, a 3-day long book expo came to New York City, it was called Book Expo America. At the Book Expo there were many different types of cooking and baking books. I was able to get my hands on a couple: 500 Cakes By Susannah Blake and 500 Cupcakes By Fergal Connolly. The recipes in both the books are so simple and clear. They have a beautiful picture of the cake or cupcake on the page to the right of the recipe and the desserts just look and taste incredible. My favorite part is that with almost every recipe comes a delicious variation with flavors you wouldn't even think of using in a cupcake. My favorite cake is the pound cake because it is so fluffy and has a great taste and texture. My favorite cupcake is the little caramel cupcakes because the caramel is so gooey and you can really taste the coffee.

I Met Rachel Ray at the Food Network!!!

Today my friend Jen took me to the Food Network and I got to meet Rachel Ray. It was soooo cool!!! Here's a picture of me in Rachel Ray's kitchen and she even autographed her Big Orange Cookbook that Jen bought me. "Gillian S'up? Bake On! XOX Rachel Ray". She was so nice and spent a lot of time talking to me. I gave her my business card. I wonder if she'll check out this site. She asked me to post on her blog. What a FANTASIC day!! Thanks Jen!

Stephanie Lights Up The Room

Stephanie's mom works with my dad and she wanted a cake to celebrate Steph's 26th birthday. Since Stephanie is studying to be a electrician it seemed like a "bright" idea to design her cake like an electric light bulb

A Special Cake for a Special Award

You probably can't tell but trust me this is exactly what the award logo looks like. The company does promotional advertising and the owner (I know her personally) wanted a cake to celebrate the award with her employees.

I Designed This Cake!!!!!!

This was my Bat-Mitzvah cake. I really wanted to bake it myself but with everything going on I just couldn't. So.........the next best thing was to help with the design. Since the party was in February the cake is covered in snowflakes. The colors matched my invitation and I love the way they draped the lime green on the middle blue layer. Maybe they'll let me bake the cake for my sister's Bat-Mitzvah......we'll see.
